And a Royal Jamaica box!  Very good sound and hard to find!

I love Luan, and use it for tile ware boards with my clay work. It stays flat and the light weight is great. I've been using some finished birch plywood that is light but has the chipping problem. I got it free from a friend and i got a lot of it! Must use it up.

Thanks for the kind words Bluesheart.

Dave, Luan, that's what I use. Thin and light. I'm making one now, for my CB mando, with some thicker stuff. Its for wainscoting and has grooves cut in it, to mimic narrow boards. Whether I cover it or not, depends on how it turns out.

Really nice work on that, way to go!

I've made a couple of cases out of thin plywood. I don't like the way the plywood chips on the edges but it looks good with varnish or as you do with fabric over it. i use some wild floral upholstery fabric to make the case stand out in a crowd. I'll have to post some photos of my attempts. I have made a big one for my "Big Boy" box guitar. It's as big as a locker. I've used some rubber backed upholstery fabric for the interior. That's nice as the glue doesn't go through to stiffen the plush.

Thanks Dave. This was my first. Its made of solid pine I planed down. Tobacco juice stain and varnished. The handle in a brazing rod and some kind of brass fitting I cut in half and drilled. I've been making them lately of thin plywood, I can't remember right now what its called. I cover them with canvas and paint them and I line it with some sort of velvet or velveteen.

Mighty nice case work. I like to get old cases on ebay and re fabric them and fix them for ukuleles and banjoleles. I've done several now. I got a sewing machine to play with interior padding. I've got quite the fabric selection from the local fabric shop scrap bins. I've covered the outside with fabric using mod podge for the job. It works great.
