Just an update photo of my Black Tabak Especial showing how I elongated the slot on the headstock and added a 5th tuning machine. It also identies how the strings are being used.

  • And I no longer bother with scarf joints, preferring to cut the headstock down by maybe 1/2" and then adding a slot and tuners. My paddle box stick dulcimer has one of the slotted heads as does my (still in progress) dulcijo. You can see photos of these on my personal page on CBN.

  • Also, this was my first slotted head design. The ones I make these days that use a slotted head have tuners with longer posts that go all the way thru to the other side of the slot. I guess my slots are probably a bit narrower, too.

    This CBG has seen a lot of changes and I expect I'll be making more as time goes on. Like most of my instruments, I make modifications from time to time to see if I can improve them. Sometimes modifying an instrument is easier than building a new one.
