  • It kinda depends on things, but especially on if you could make a profit on whatever has that image.  If you yourself paint a painting based on someone else's painting, I wouldn't think that would be an issue.  Also, there are statutes of limitation, usually something on the order of 50 years.  I found lots of great squid stuff out there, usually with the artist's name attached, and if that artist is living, the art is off limits.  I suppose I could have tried to get his permission but that might've involved money.

  • I should disclose that I'm not the artist of that awesome image.  And in case anyone out there is a copyright attorney, I never found a name attached to this painting and I'm not using the image to make a profit.  Unfortunately.  Pretty cool how the chest of gold dabloons floats like it's made of styrofoam.
