Upland Buzzard

This 3 string box guitar took a while to complete and I am happy I took my time. It has a 22.75" scale with 22 frets. All wooden parts are handmade, painted black and finished with quality varnish, The box is handpainted with a unique design I freehandedly painted on, finished with multiple layers of varnish. The design is in the art nouveau style with a lotus flower and a bird that flies off, this has a symbolic meaning to it. The sides of the box are finished with Danish oil. The box was first sanded smooth and aged/stained. It has a unique soundhole, pickup holder, bridge and leg support. The neck is beech with brazillian greenheart, finished with lineseed oil. It has fretmarkers and the wood is stained darker on the fretboard at those positions. The frets are brass, this suits the golden look with other brass and golden parts. The headstock has some nice details and handmade brass logo. The end of the fretboard has a bird inlay, also found on the headstock. The box can still be opened. Very nice acoustic sound as well as electric. It has a very bright single coil pickup with volume and tone control. The action is nice and low for comfortable fretted playing. Looks and plays great! I named the guitar after the Upland Buzzard (Buteo hemilasius) (Mongolian Buzzard). The colors of this buzzard suit the guitar well! The Upland Buzzard is the largest buzzard and the largest member of the Buteo in the world based on total length and wingspan. The total length of the bird is 57 to 71 cm, with a wingspan of 143-161 cm. It is found in Bhutan, China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Normally found in open montane grass lands and cultivation in summer, wintering to lower altitudes. Frequently hovers. It hunts from air or ground and feeds on small mammals, birds and insects. Breeds between April and August on crags and ledges of cliffs. Nest is made of sticks and well lined. Feeds on small mammals, birds and insects.
