This project used a cookie tin as the sound box, but instead of using the tin for the soundboard, the bottom was cut out and replaced with 2mm plywood veneer to serve as the sound board. The instrument is basically a 2-stringer strummer / stick dulcimer / call-it-what-you-want with a 3/4 length "short" string tuned re-entrantly. The 3rd string is by default fretted at the 4th fret, and from there runs under the fretboard before re-appearing just before fret 0 and the nut on its way to a tuning machine.
