I have built two of these instruments now, and while they look real cool, they don't sound so well. I think the problem is the the "flying V" just cuts into the sound box too much and perhaps adds a certain rigidity to the sound board such that it doesn't resonate so well. So, for the time being I have given up on this design. I think if I do another build along these lines it will have to be an electric.

Your paddle box project is also coming along pretty well. You are several steps ahead of me. But, I am in no special hurry to finish, as I enjoy taking my time with a build. The kid who suggested I should build a Flying V dulcimer said he'd like one, so I guess I'll give this one to him once I'm done. He said he'd like his painted in bright red! Well, we'll see. I'll show it to him before I decide on how to finish it. Well, good luck with your project.
