AGP #371 - ''New York''

AGP #371 - “New York” -(3 String Licence Plate Guitar)Scale:25½” Strings:.046NW/.030NW/.022NW/ Tuned:GDgThe 13¾” x 7½” x 3¾” Box is a thin Pine Ply Ebay Wine Carrier, the Neck is solid clear Pine, the Fretboard is Vine Patterned White Oak, the Neck was torched and then along with the Box was given a coat of Golden Teak Stain and 3 coats of a brush on French Polish Lacquer, a 4.5k Delta Type Pickup is hardwired to the Output Jack.In the search for a different Acoustic sound I get from my usual style of heavier framed LPG’s, this time I went for a Lightweight Box Build, BUT!, when finished and strung up, it sounded like Shite!, no Acoustic quality, Resonance or Sustain etc, just sounded Flat and Dull, changed string gauges but made no differece, thought it may have needed more or bigger Sounds Holes, but when played with the lid opened, still no change, then thought it may have been the Aluminium Plate, but have successfully used them in the past with no problems, so ruled that out, the only other cause I could come with, was that it was the 3 Coats of Lacquer on the Box, so stripped all that off and wouldn’t ya know it!, “PROBLEM FIXED”, now has a light coat of “Orange Oil Furniture Polish”, and smells good enough to eat, goes to show that even after #370 odd builds there’s still something new to learn each day. :-)

  • "Thanks Bones", now #371 and still learning!, the Pup on the latest one ended up being a bit too high, with no room to lower it, have been away for abt a week, but now home and it will be rectified today!  :-)

  • "Thanks Dave", I've used many different headstock designs in the past, and still do, but this must be my fave!, as I seem to have been using it quite a bit lately, it was originally based on a Hofner Bass headstock (ala Paul McCartney) but modified to suit my preferred style and size that suits a CBG. :-)

  • Wow Cobba that a pearler I’m with Dave love the headstock , 370 n still learning never keep a good man down ..

  • Another beauty AGP. I love your signature headstock. Interesting fix on the sound quality. I would never think of the finish as being so important. I’ve noticed after a few days the sound quality improves on it’s own. I call it the break in period.
  • "Thanx Pick"  :-)

  • "Thanks Bob", Nearly all my builds builds have this Skull & Crossbones ornament on them somewhere, usually on the Headstock and nearly always in the position where a 4th Machine Head would placed, giving me the option to change it into a 4 Stringer, these particular ones were purchased on Ebay, and marketed as "5 x (20 Sets) Skull Crossbones Rivets 16 x 12mm Q6K3", cost $8.20Aud, which works out at around 8 cents each. :-)

  • mighty fine
  • Stunner of an LPG.  That scorching and the vibrant finishing (the plate too) really stand out! Out of interest, is the skull and xbones a clothing button as I have some that are a near match.
