AGP #369 - ''Tamjo''

AGP #369 - “Tamjo” 3 String Diatonic Fretted (????)Scale:648mm/25½inches Strings:.024BW/.016PS/.012PS/Tuned D A dThe Neck is recycled Poplar from my deconstructed Piano I acquired a few years back, the 6mm Hexagon Nut was also from the same Piano, the de-cymbaled Tambourine, has a Birch Ply Body with a Polyester Skin. Not sure what category of instrument this build fits into, Banjo?/Dulcijo?/Strummy Stick?/, I used elements from all 3 when building, but!, unfortunately it was not the success I thought it would be, very poor Acoustic Volume, and has no Banjo type ring to it at all, I wasn’t going to fit a Pickup, but now glad I did!, albeit one those Piezo Discs I don’t normally like!, in case anyone is wondering why the Piezo Disc is fitted to the underside of the Neck instead of the topside, and then hidden with 50 cent Coin, is because it’s what’s referred to in the CBG building world as, a “Stuff Up”:-D

  • "Thanks Dave", Yep!, the Piezo Disc & Coin is embedded in hot glue, the Fostner drill bit recess should of course should be out of sight on the upper side of the through Neck, but a "Seniors Moment" resulted in a slight "Whoopsie"  :-D

  • Beautiful work AGP. I like the piezo on the neck. Is it imbedded in hot glue? That seems to work good for me. My Ludwig tambourine is fit with brackets for head tensioning. I tighten glued on hide heads with heat or sunshine. You’ve got plenty of that. :D)

  • "Thanx Ambrose", I do love the look of this very lightweight build, but I think it needs a few mod's to attain a bit better sound from it.  :-)

  • "Yep! UJ", still using wood from my trusty old Piana, there are many way's to do the Signature or any other types of lettering art, thanx to Utube,  but the basic method I use, is to print a mirror image of what I want with a Laser Printer, on ordinary A4 paper, and then heat transfer the ink to the Headstock etc., with a flat blade on  a Pyrographic Pen, and then burn it in with the same pen, fitted with a fine point nib, have done variations of my signature on various builds, but this one is becoming my fave', the font is called "Freestyle Script' and is Italized.

Without going in to too much detail here and now, there are several easy steps to the process I use, and if your interested I will put together the step by step method I use in a separate post or message.   :-)

  • Yep Bones!, originally I did think about adding a metal back to it, and still might!, it probably will be modified somehow, at some time in the near future!   :-)

  • Some very nice touches. It all blends nicely.

  • STILL using wood from that piano! Cool new head stock logo. How did you do that?
  • Nice construction I think a tin lid or a repurposed Ant Cap could be used to help project the sound , just a thought .
