I did the tail pieces individually out of cheapo target brand picture hangers. They are identical to the pricey Ook brand ones, but with a nickel finish instead of brass. Also, I glued in a piezo pickup, but haven't tested that yet.

Yep - they work great too. I just snip off the hook with wire cutters, drill the screw hole, and file off the sharp edges. On one of my more recent builds I covered the tail piece up with a scrap of the fret board material to finish it up nicely. And I stole this idea from someone else too, so let's just keep passing it along. :)
