i think the airbrushed Black Walnut fretboard looks nice with the relic Fender Champ body. The colors go nice together.

  • I got the new pup cover control plate gluing up. Padauk, Bocote, and Cherry from our backyard. To dark for nice photos so tomorrow for that. I'll have a challenge fitting the pots into the existing pocket. The Fender had a metal plate pup cover, sturdy but thin. Mine is fat wood, so it crowds the space for the tone knob. I might have to change the pocket with my dremmel. Not that i've ever done that.... I've scored a pile of old control knobs off ebay. Can't wait to pick some for the old Fender. I might make my own too.

  • Thanks Uncle John. I'll try a shaped control plate out of Padauk or Walnut today. The wood kiln is loaded. Tomorrow we fire.

  • I kind of like it just as it is.  I mean the old and new combination.    Hmm.

  • Thanks Wes, me too. I've got a full weekend of firing in a wood kiln to make some $. Fender will have to wait a bit. I'll keep adding coats of rub on varnish meanwhile. I haven't picked a pup yet. I have several to choose from. I need some string grommets. And a bridge to fit the old footprint.. My bridge might be part wood and part metal. I'll go looking for some L shaped metal.
