  • Thanks Uncle John, I'm having fun cleaning up old knobs. I got some beauties. I think though they won't match, she'll have some new old knobs on for the next photo.

  • Nice combo of old and new and blue.

  • Hey Jabes, look in my folder for lap steels and you'll see the whole transformation. I hoped for the pups arrival today, but alas, no pup. I've got other single coil Fender style pups in my collection, but this one sounds good to me. Hand wound with the right sound. That mellow Hawaiian sound. So I'll wait. I've got the wiring to do and i want to add a metal bar to the bridge so i can ground my strings. I get a hum sometimes from single coils if i don't ground my strings. I've got some nice boxes to start a build with. I'll pick one. I got 150 knobs off ebay to go through. Some great knobs. Some rediculous, some vintage, some you gotta see. Photos to come...

  • Thanks St., ya the pickup goes under the wood hand rest. There's a diagonal pocket under there. The original was rather thin. I'll make the pocket bigger if needed to seat the new pup. The pocket for the tone and volume was rather small as well. They must of had mini pots even back then. I'm using big pots and have routed out the pocket a bit. I had to change the location of one pot due to my using wood instead of metal for my cover plates. The wood is much thicker than the metal. I'm using smallish knobs too. The whole thing is very compact. Just enough room for the jack, pots and wiring (i hope). These lap steels are very small in general. The players like the small scale length (for slants i am told). I like the small size too.

  • looking beautiful. i can't wait to see it finished. I love the weathered look, super classic. where does the pup go? not a lot of real estate there to seat it. is it hidden under that block?

  • oh no! waitin' for parts... ah well i think it's good to wait,my steel is on hold til i get back from 'BOXSTOCK' as i see it could do with a little cosmetic attention .( a bit of wood added just to aid the er   symmetry..it won't sound any different- or will it?

that champ looks great- what did it look like before?
