22_2a CBG Build Mike Willmouth Sept 4 2017

Modification of build 22 - so this is 2.0I added the sound holes because it wasn't loud enough to get the tuner to pick it up - it works now. I removed the capacitor on the input jack because it really knocked out the high note, and I added a thin coil pickup under the Cigar Box Nation center hole cover. I also installed an on-on micro switch to be able to change between the coil and piezo. I put a copper plate on the tail piece going to ground. And I did change out the bone bridge to a wood bridge. And of Course I put all wound steel stings on it.

  • pretty.,..,

  • I like the look!

  • The pickup is a cheap, narrow magnetic bar pickup (http://www.mgbguitars.com/guitar-parts-pickups-five-p/20638.htm). It is actually just a little wider than the arm on the center hole. I looked at mounting it elsewhere, but I really just didn't have the room without modifying the neck, which ended at the front end of the box (it would weaken it). So I put it under the center sound hole. It actually is picks up well and is down right loud if you turn the volume up, but so is the Piezo. The guitar is fun to play and sounds good -- I used a Just Intonation scale.

  • I notice now I get more hum when the volume is set low to mid range, but stops if I turn it up all the way. I'm thinking that it has to do with the switch.
