U John,the simplest i've seen,and i've tried it and messed it up,is to just run your fret board through further toward the head,and just slot the end,my attempt wasn't long enough to make the strings really drop into the slot fully
I like zero frets and run into the same string alignment challenges. The one I am currently working on is set up similar to yours. I am going to try a wood string guide.
