I don't know much about bass guitars either, but I've wanted to build one for awhile. Been having some fun noodling around on it. It has a 30 inch scale, and I used the two lowest strings from a standard bass tuned E & A. I had several of the Tabak Especial boxes which are all wood and nice and deep. So it sounds good unplugged.
I bet that blasts some bass. I really don't have much of a clue about how to play bass, but could maybe crank the A to B and play CBG style. Ooh or lower the E to a D.... It looks good too.
