  • Yeah I sand after cutting the slots and even after the fretboard is glued, might be easier to do it before cutting the slots but sometimes I do things backwards haven't had any problems either

I will be tapering to match the tuneomatic bridge and putting a truss rod on the six string.. it'll also be my first serious six string. I did one along time ago classical nylon string style  I don't have it but compared to my stuff now I bet it was a mess!

  • Here is another question.  Do you cut the slots for the frets before or after you have made a radius on the fingerboard?  If you to it afterwards is it difficult to get a common depth for the holes?  Do you taper your 6 string necks or add a truss rod?  I'm about to try to make the leap to a 6 string neck.

  • Ask away!  I just posted another shot of the fingerboard already sanded with the block sitting on it.

The wood I use for fingerboards is 1/4 inch more or less.  I'll start putting up more building pics now that I've got alot of them going.. will be starting on a six string ammo guitar in the next few days

  • Thanks so much.  I went and got a 12 inch sanding block from stewmac.  How thick of wood did you use on the finger board.  Thanks so much for sharing.  I can't promise this will be my last question.  I love your work!

  • i use a 12 inch radius sanding block from stewmac.com  all you need to do is stick some sand paper on the block and go at it.. I'll leave a pencil line down the center of the fretboard and sand until it just gets taken away

in the other photo I posted you can see the tool I made to bend the fret wire.. a quick search will bring up a diy for that

I always over bend the wire quite a bit for these smaller necks so it knocks in and stays especially on the edges

  • Nice radius!  I need to learn how to do this.  Where can I read about it?  Is there a specific tool? Please share!
