Hi Maddog, Uncle John said you are one of the amp guru's.

Can I ask a question please? Just got an old speaker cab at the bootfair for £2 and luckily it has a 10" Celestion in it ! It has a speaker matching transformer and I'm not sure if it's ok to connect to the speaker out on my Fender greta. It's wire in to the 7.5ohm terminal and then from the 15.9 ohm to the speaker. I connected a jack socket to the two ply wire. + to 7.5ohm, neg to "com". Tried it on the rec out of my Roland cube. it worked but was quitter than the amps speaker. Will the speaker ext out have a higher output?

    Cheers

    Gary

  • GARY KNIGHT

The speaker has no markings other than the words "Celestion" so not sure what Ohm rating it is. I'm just about to leave on holiday for 2 weeks, so I won't get internet access again til I get home. Thanks for the reply

    Hey Maddog,

I hear you are an authority in the field of LPG's. :) Just a quick question: How do you cut the neck pocket out in the plate? I'm doing a six string with a strat-style neck and probably a lipstick pu...

    Thanks and Kind Regards,

    Peter

  • Peter Otto

    Hi Pat,

It's a bolt on neck and the body is solid maple. I made the pocket in the body with a ball bearing router bit and a home made template ( I've done that before, but this time I had a slight problem; the template came loose, so the pocket isn't as pretty as intended, but still ok). The problem I had was cutting the metal LP. I solved this by using a Dremel style tool with one of the tiny grinder discs attached and then file the pocket to the correct size. All that remains to be done is drill the holes for the neck, solder the volume pot and assemble everything :)

    Thank you and kind regards,

    Peter

Thanks again Maddog,I'll probably get back to LPG's sometime but after 6 in a row need something different. There was a discussion recently asking if it was ego that made builders stray from path of building "pure" CBG's in my case it's maintaining interest by doing something a bit different

Thanks Maddog. You know I consider Your expertise as a guideline if possible for me. This winter was not so cold, more wet than snowy, but it lasted for a long time. A few days with sunny and warm wheather last week, now it is cold again. (about 40F). But we have a warm house and good clothing. The Best to You and Yours Maddog!
