What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here (at least one sentence long), your membership may be rejected as a spam/bot fake account).
Each one is a new adventure and learning experience / engineering challenge.
Thank YOU. Your stuff is amazing. I really like the Papillion uke and the build you are doing with the curved/clamshell box. I have a pile of those boxes and I like the look (& challenge) of the curved top/edge.
Thanks for your comments. I was just about to post some more photos of No23 and say it was my first fourstringer but I'd forgotten about the bass I made for a nieces boyfriend. He did the outside paintwork on the house in exchange
I have been wanting to see what the fall looks like in maine, and mass. for a long time. Some of the pictures I have seen are more beautiful than those here in WV and VA.Yes maple is definately a plus.
Hi Bluesheart, just noticed your like comment from sunday. Thank you for that. I'm still just finding my feet navagating the site etc. So apologies for my late reply.
Hey bluesheart, Thanks for the invite to friendliness. I love your work and your comments. I love this site and meeting new like minded builders and players such as yourself. ... Dave
Hey Bluesheart, i got myself in trouble with the powers at Nation over the lady sculptures. I don't want to cause any trouble with anyone, so i'll speak of it no more. I love this site and want to stay in the club. "Nobody knows you when you're down and out" like you're singing... Dave
Very glad to accept your Friend request. Once I get to a decent computer, I plan to look and listen more closely to your vids they take forever to load on an iPad). One way to improve that that I do is to upload to YouTube, then paste the YT link to CBN.
Thanks for the compliment. Yeah I threw some frets in there, I figured all the work I put into it would be a waist if I didn't. Been wanting to check out your pics for a while now, I'm sure you have a lot of new ones in there. Thanks again.
Hey Bluesheart. Thanks for your comments about too many photos/videos per day. I like seeing all the great stuff people are making, but too much is too much. I don't look as much at the multitude of daily additions. Now i troll through the photos and open only ones that turn my crank. I'm amazed at the sheer volume of new photos every day. It get boring to try and see them all. Less would be more in this case. I love this site and hate to see it made into a race for numbers of views of the same project. Fewer with more information written about each one. Many photos are not identified at all. I'd use the messages are for my comment, but it's not working for me lately. I have to go right to your page to leave a message. Don't know what the problem is there... Thanks again for taking time to speak to this issue. ... Dave
Ha!!! You should have made up some big story about how you learned that heel detail from a CBG building Tibetan monk during you travels east while trying to find yourself. Who knows, I may have bought it ;)
Thanks for the friend request thing. I'm flattered and happy to oblige!
Hi Bluesheart! Thanks for wishing me welcome to The Nation. I've finished two more gits since then, and I'm keeping on keeping on. I've tried to comment to your builds, but have failed to load it up or something. I'll try again.
Bluesheart, the lack of a chapter on you and featuring photos of Aja, the Undertaker, Splinter Pig and other examples of your skill and design aesthetic makes David Sutton's book, "Cigar Box Guitars" incomplete.
Bruce, I look forward to your new works. I have been working on mandos and ukes lately, but recently returned to the 3-stringer standard to build one for my cousin and it is very pretty, with clean lines. I will post pictures of it after she receives it in New York. It's supposed to be a surprise (what it looks like), so I don't want her stumbling onto any pics before then. She plays bass, so I strung it uniquely. More to come! :) I'm hoping to do more of the Steampunk work too, since the Steampunk twins have gone off to new homes.
Thanks for your comments. Yes it is all cut by hand, must be getting better, I only snapped two piercing saw blades on the tailpiece as opposed to about ten on the sound hole
