We are very excited over the idea of actually being able to talk to someone who has actually made or played a CBG.  Most of our friends think we are crazy when we start talking about making playable instruments from cigar boxes. We live in Manteca, which is not all that far away, though it is not exactly around the corner either.  At any rate, we are anxious to meet other folks with a similar passion.

Thanks too, I see you inquired about the group---my life gets so busy--I honestly fell away for visits here,..just alot going on, I also have online sale and family commits.... I should pass the torch with the group , to anyone wanting to step up to the bat and really be manning news, posts, interchanges, for the group....:-)      who knows we might become a NorCal group, and force to be reckoned with!!!! (lol),,,,this IS a long state! I figure that groups will arise within "travel boundries"  . Cheers!

Tommy here (of the Washtub bass) if there's room for a 10-15 minute lesson I'd like to teach some chords for CBG in D and G. I rarely play slide and there's a lot of cool tunes out there. Let me know if you need me to bring anything!

Any more word on the Second Ever Sacramento Area CBG Get-Together?

I had an inquiry on Everything Dulcimer, and I said one is in the works for January. Hope it still is on. You might want to post some more event notices as your date 12 just 2 weeks away. Hopefully you have a mailing list going of folks who attended the last one. If you need help drumming up interest, let me know. I can do what I did last time from here in China.

Hi Will,

Yes, I'll be returning to the States this summer, perhaps even a month earlier for 3 months instead of two, if things turn out as planned. Maybe we can do either an early summer and a late summer get together, or make the late summer get together a week or so earlier so I can attend. You are right, the mailing list needs to be actively monitored to insure the data collected is complete and legible. Thanks for the comment.  My father in law actually gave me the spittoon as a joke.  When he found out I started building he thought he would be funny.  He dropped it off one day and said "lets see you do something with this"  smiled and walked off.  2 weeks later I showed up with the finished product and he was literately speechless.  Made me smile.

My plan is to go but we may have company from Ireland in NY at that time.  Otherwise I should be there.  I'll be in San Jose the first week in May.

  I have been thinking about your uke neck joint.  I think it is much simpler and better than mine.

However, I don't have the technology to cut off the neck with a perfectly square cut.  That is my first problem.  I thought of a couple solutions.  The first is to build a mitre box and make it very tight and accurate.  I could even shim up the end of the neck while cutting to get a tiny amount of neck drop, if I wanted.  The second would be to use the compound mitre saw at the tall ship whenever I want to make that cut.  It is only a mile away and the saw is excellent with good sharp blade, etc.  I could put a spacer behind the neck so the headstock would not interfere with the alignment in the saw.  

The next problem would be drilling that hole for the hanger bolt perfectly straight.  I see you have a tool for that.  Maybe there is something like that around the tall ship tent.  

Do you put any neck drop on your ukes?  Do you think it is useful/necessary?  I put a slight amount in and lose about half of it when I string it up.

  I found a cat bowl today.  Do you use the one with the little cat paw imprints?  And the rubber o ring around the base? I really liked the sound of your cat bowl uke.

Today I put the final touches on my 3 tall ship ukes.  

Also, just finishing up 2 dance shoe cases.  These are fancy boxes to carry one's dance shoes in when traveling to a dance venue.

Do you ever build your own boxes?

I may get up there next week.

I spent the morning fooling with the reso.  Got it sounding a little louder now.  The bridge I had was cut away in the middle and I decided that is exactly where the pressure should me max.  So I replaced it with a solid one.  I also temporarily clamped a wood block across the strings just behind the back of the reso to increase the bridge break angle.  It didn't seem to make any difference in volume.
