Thanks Brian. I've been "lurking" around "the nation" for the last few months while I did a few builds. There is an amazing amount of information exchanged here and if I think I've got anything that others may benefit from I'll be sure to share.

Brian, I know this is a long time in coming, but thank you! I finally got aroundtoit looking around on my page.

  • James Pobog

I think it was more about 1.My skill level at the time, and 2. the detail work. I just didn't have confidence back then, and also somewhat a lack of funds and time. The thing that wigs me out is attaching the neck to the box.

  • James Pobog

Thanks. I am feeling VERY confident about the lap steels. I think there is the potential for me to turn out some pretty nice pieces.

Caveat... These are NOT going to be furniture woodworker quality, but they will not be hacked junk either. I'm looking at it as half folk art...

My First CBG is going to be made with a snapper turtle shell, 3 strings, poplar neck ( I already have these things ). Haven't decided how i'm going to close up the back of the shell yet, maybe just a 1/4 inch birch ( from 1 of my flooring jobs) cut to fit. Any ideas would be helpful. Also have not decided on what kind of pickup to use. Thanks, Bob.

  • Les Potter

Thank you, BrianQ. . I am pretty excited about all this. You all look like a great bunch. But I have a question, please: Is there a teacher or mentor who can help me get started? I live in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. I'd love some help from an experienced player to speed me along on this exciting journey. Thanks for any help. Les Potter

I have now printed off his 23" template which I will use on my next guitar. In ukes I prefer Tenor scale which is 21". If I do produce something I'll post some pictures. I will put up some pics also of earlier completed projects if I can find them!
