Help

Hi everybody

i seem to have created a problem for myself by making a three string guitar with a 30" scale it seemed like a good idea at the time but now i am having great difficulty trying to tune it to the standard GDG i am rapidly running out of strings is there anyone out there who could suggest a string combination to solve this problem.

Thanks guys

First of all, that’s a Baritone scale length, which purpose is to achieve a lower timbre than a standard cbg & demands larger strings? What gauges of strings are you using & are you experiencing String breakage tuning to pitch? Also, what is your method of tuning, by ear or are you using a tuner & what type of tuner are you using, clip-on, standard electric, online, Etc.?

Forgot to add, long scale lengths usually command lower tunings solely for the sake of balanced string tension. One of my go to cbg’s has a 30” scale length with D’Addario .052, .042, .030 nickel wounds, which is strings 4,5,6 from a 11-52 set & lives in the world of low D & below? I would tune it to DAD or CGC to see if it makes a difference? I also have another few questions, (1) have you verified that your fret spacing is correct, if one is off, your tuning will also be off. (2) is the action at the nut high, this will make chords sound out of tune.

        If you are going for bass (G1 D2 G2) use 72 58 36.

        If you are going for normal (G2 D3 G3) use 36 24 17p.
