I remember making one of these when I was about 10. It lasted about 5 minutes then my mum did her housework.

Something my kid and I knocked up in 15 minutes, he loves DIY and building stuff. Plastic bucket, sizal string and the handle of a dollar store mop. Maybe we'll add a piezo.

I hammered it out until I got a pleasant "gong" sound.
It is amazing the difference in sound. The pan originally had a "plink" sound and probably would have had some undesirable overtones.

Yes, Bristol-I hammered out a cone shape into a baking pan and it made a world of difference in the sound.
Certainly worth the effort!

Not personally , but I'm sure I saw a video of someone doing just that a while back... hammering gently and uniformally around the outside "flange" .

Thinking about my last comment.. I think it's possible to 'tune' these things post build, much like steel drums are made by changing the shape with small dents and holes.. Has anyone tried this?
