Regarding the Stew-Mac fret calculator, I found it a lot easier to workk out of the metric system. It was impossible to work out 100ths of an inch to 64ths so I got a metric ruler which makes marking the frets much easier. I started out with a pre-slotted fretboard that I used as a template but wanted to do a variety of scale lengths. Still - measuring out frets is the most tedious part for me.

Hello all, I'm in Springfield, Hampshire Co. WV it's cool seeing what others in the area are doing. I mostly focus on old time acoustic music but this site has inspired me to move in other directions which keeps the creative flow rolling along!

go to that link and ther are other fret calc. links at the bottom of the page.

let me know if it helps. I made the fan one just see if ti works, used two sheets of poster board , one for the drawing and the other so i could make my lower point then kept the top piece for fret fan .

All is well up here or over here , am on here about every night late, Am remodeling house and no time or room to build anything right now. as for scale marking there is a formula  that I found I'll find the link and post it. it is a drawing you make on poster board then use for any scale length. will try to post it soon.

I have been to the calculator on the stewmac site, but I just didn't know how to convert. I guess now I just need to figure out this new converter. Stephe, that is a really good idea. I didn't even think of that. I just wonder though about the bridge to nut measurement. If I did it this way, all my guitars would have to be the same length wouldn't they? well, I have a smaller guitar for a child so tomorrow I am going to start there. Thanks guys! Also, I would like to make an amp. I have lots of parts, could I use an old stereo guts?

I agree with Stephen. That is what I use for standard size scale. If it is an odd size then I use this http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator and I use this to convert it in to fractions http://www2.whidbey.net/ohmsmath/webwork/javascript/decin2fr.html hope this helps...
