Alls quiet here but I thought I might stir things up with a question. Does anyone know or know where to find the diameter of fiddle strings. I have been using fishing successfully for sometime now. However I cant get the tones quite right. Thought if I could find out the average diameters of thw strings I could match it better. For now I have been using 50lbs for G, 30lbs for D and A, and either 10 or 8 lbs for E

One of the most challenging things for me was getting a good angle on the neck. It's not like a regular CBG. You need a really good angle on the strings. Here's the simplest solution I could come up with-
Simply sand the carry through at a slight angle and then glue on your neck! Easy right!?!
I drew a pencil line so you could see the area that was sanded down before glueing

Just the bass alone I have learned volumes of information, and am looking forward to what I learn from my future projects. I have read every post on this forum and used what I could. I have also learned from a lot of other places. even though my instruments will never be accepted in the role of an orchestra, my bass has a lot of potential with other styles and genres of music. I plan on sharing whatever I can with everyone here so it spreads the wealth of music, and knowledge.
First fiddle build... What do I need to know?tag:www.cigarboxnation.com,2014-02-13:2592684:Topic:18935832014-02-13T17:40:06.384ZPKBhttps://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/PKB

I have a few narrower boxes sitting around and I'd like to try my hand at a fiddle. I've built a couple CBG's so I kind of have some of the basics down.

I am a relatively experienced guitar player playing and recording in a gigging band but know nothing about fiddles/violins.

Questions:

What is the proper scale length for a fiddle?

Does the fingerboard need to be radiused? If so how much?

Anything else that I need to know? Anything you wish you knew…

Hey all.

I'm not a fiddle player. I plan to build a box fiddle, Full Size.
I also plan to learn to play.

QUESTION: can you use a 1/2 size Bow on a Full Size Violin? I just find the bow really long and prefer to have a shorter stroke across the box.

This screw things up ??

Thanks
Does anyone have an opinion on taking a fiddle (or this old clunker of a 3/4 cello I have) and making it into a dulcimer CBG etc.? The results would seem to be resonant creatures (I think) but what would you cut, what must you leave in the structure of the fiddle? Is scale length an issue?
Any thoughts are of interest.
Thanks,
