Every time I try to make a Mill City CBG group, some snippy admin deletes it, but are there enough people from the Minneapolis St. Paul area who want to form a group or at least hang out here on this…Continue

I just joined. I live in Lake Delton, WI (although my address is in Baraboo for some reason). Grew up in southern MN, lived in Madison for a long time. I finished my first CBG last week and I have…Continue

Hey ya, Russ. I've been using 1x2 Hickory from Menards for my necks. Only two to date but it's worked out well. It makes for a somewhat heavy guit, but it's strong and stable if you pick through the stock and find the right sticks. Most is flat cut but if you keep looking at the locations close to you, you will eventually find some that are pretty close to quarter sawn. When you do, it's pretty straight as an arrow. They usually have a pretty nice inventory of 1x2 maple, oak and poplar also.
Too awesome! I'll be checking those out as soon as I have the free time. Thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah, same here. Home Depot and Loses are pretty much just pine, poplar and red oak. There is always Rockler though. Its a woodworking store and they should have a pretty good choice of woods. They're in Burnsville, Maplewood, and Minnetonka. www.rockler.com
Members of Minneapolis! I am curious. Where do you buy your wood for necks 'n' such? So far I've only gone to Home Depot, but their selection is kinda lame. I've only seen two kinds of wood there. I'd like to work with something that looks and feels better. Suggestions?
Anyone from Southwestern Ohio? I'm located in Highland County.
Howdy Kevin and Russ, great to have you on board!
Hey, y'all - just joining here. From No.IL 1/2 way between Milwaukee & Chicago. Got the addiction to build some time ago - can't stop ever since. Kevin
Hey Russ and Phil! Nice to see a couple more Twin Cities guys in here. I'm pretty new to all this stuff also but, am having a blast and learning the in's and out's of building and playing as I go. I've started my 2nd build and have been just taking my time with it. Maddog is right. If you have DIY in your blood, one just isn't enough. I now have the component part for about 4-5 more guits and a stack of suitable boxes a mile high. I'm not sure how that happened exactly ;)
Hey folks, name's Russ from Minneapolis, MN. Just getting started on building, myself. I decided to build a 1-string canjo for a friend as a secret santa gift. So far I've only built a super short and super unplayable test canjo. It was fun to make some mistakes and I really look forward to taking what I've learned and improving on that first attempt!
