I hear you Barrie! I spent a long long time getting the neck just so right on my La Paz! build, but measured the scale wrong. I had it all done - headpiece, tail piece, tuners on, nut sorted, frets marked (wrongly!), stained, laquered... then... that horrible, sinking, realisation that something is not quite right. I had to strip it back, cut 2" off the head, redo all the headstock, fill all the extra holes, re mark the frets... took a full extra day. These things are sent to try us...

I was using a pillar drill with a router bit in it to make a slot in the headstock. Holding it with fingers I knew it was dodgy but carried on. The bit grabbed the wood, pulled my hand onto it and ripped a chunk off the end of my finger. For a moment there was no pain and I thought I'd lost a sizable piece. It was bad enough but healed eventually.

HAHA!! You guys kill me with your stories keep em comming - i learned early on when i was about 20 ish not to use a electric planer upside down as though it was a surface planer , while pushing a bit of wood over the planer blades the bit of wood stopped but my fingers carried on and introduced themselves to the planer blades , it was a breif encounter but i have never been back to say hi lol!! , i squirted blood for 2 feet and lost half a finger nail and the tip of a finger but it's grown back now hahah!! you live and learn
Randy measure twice cut once , Barrie always drill a pilot hole when screwing in-to hard wood , David never use a router Bit in a pillar drill , router bits should run at 15-20,000 rpm a pillar drill runs at about 3,000 rpm

Wise words Juju. Id like to add "Keep your wood as long as you can, as long as you can" :o)
Not guitar related and no blood was spilt, but Il share this with you anyway...
I was using the bench saw in the hall (raining outside, the mrs out for the morning...) to cut some lats. I wasnt concentrating 100% and the wood caught, to be propelled very briskly indeed into the bathroom. Missed me, but hit the toilet cistern square on, smashing it to bits, and emptying the contents all over the floor. Another lesson learnt the hard way.

amazing, may be the best thing i ever herd. Although if you where living with my brother there could be an added no previous user flush before hand. How did you explane that to the missis

Explain? I didnt. Bought a new one, pretty close match, and had it reinstalled and piped in before she got back :o)
