Can a box be too shallow?

Started by Sean Murphy. Last reply by Raymond Grimmitt Dec 21, 2021. 3 Replies

I picked up two boxes for my first couple of attempts at CBG's; finished the first and I'm getting ready to start the second. The box I got is nice and long, but it's a bit shallow - only 2" deep. I feel like it'll be an interesting build but I'm…Continue

Removing box labels

My first cigar box is on the way, and it's a paper-covered wood one. As cool as the label might be, I'd rather have a plain wood box, so I can customize it to my liking...is there a set method of removing these labels, without ruining the wood…Continue

Build 2!

I built a second CBG, finished Monday night - I can't every do anything simply so I went with a knockoff of a pic I saw on this site recently. It actually worked out really well! I didn't cut a sound hole but the resonance is so good I'm considering…Continue

Best/"Easiest " Way to notch out CBG Neck......?????

Hey Everyone!!I am planning on building my first CBG in the near future, and am looking for some suggestions on the best way/easiest way that you have found to notch out the neck? I must admit that I possess very rudimentary "woodworking" skills,…Continue

My first build looked like I'd built it wearing boxing gloves and a blindfold! It very soon became an important part of my recycled, recycling again! We all live and learn mate!

Hello all, My first build was like frankenstein on red bull. After plugging a few miss drilled holes and a ton of adjustments I finally had something that sounded alright  but it looked more like something that could be used for self defense. The second turned out better and I am on the third one now and I wanted to ask what do you folks feel about 4 string CBG's?. So far I have only built the 3 string CBG's. I also wanted to ask about the magnetic pickups versus the Pizzo,I have read the magnetic pickups are better but how do you cut out  install them?Any help would be much appreciated. This may be the most addictive hobby I have ever started,I love the CBG's.Thanks.

Hey everyone!  Just joined and wanted to give a quick "Thanks!" to Mordacai.  Had already started my first build before finding out about his book.  5 minutes after downloading it I found several things I could have done better, and got answers to many things I was trying to figure out!  Hope to have this first one done this weekend, and already have 4 boxes lined up and waiting.  Now if there was just more time in the day to work on them!

SWEET! Thanks, Mordacai....I'll just be content to order all my parts today, and sit back and wait patiently...or not! :D

Don't know about getting lucky in a smoke shop, but they might have some boxes you could use. :)>

Thanks, Bill....I live in a small town, with no tobacco or smoke shops, believe it or not, lol...but, I can travel to 'the big city' on the weekends, so maybe I can find a shop, and get lucky there. :)

Robert, I generally just hit the local tobacco shops and pick up my choice of the ones available for just a couple of bucks, no muss, no fuss and no wait.
