Ok, I now have the darn thing playing. For those who don't remember (care) I finished this two days ago and it did not play.
To make a long story short I could get no sound. After 1845 minutes of frustration I disassembled the entire pre-wired pre-screwed up pickup, pots and output jack assembly. I ended up with 2 pots, a capacitor, a pickup, an output jack and a bunch of loose wire roughly in the shape of a hairball a cat just hacked up. I was having fun.
First, the pickup was defective. I bought a new high dollar ($12) single coil at my local music store. I then brought out my supply of master electrician type door bell wire and rewired the parts with my soldering iron set at heavy stun. I re-installed everything and it now makes noise. What a deal. I wonder if they have classes in reading electronic schematics in China. I doubt it.
Anyway, it works. Below are a few pictures just to prove I did it. It is not as nice I had hoped for but a lot better than I expected. Number 2 should go much better and with fewer goofs. Also much lighter. This thing is a little tub. I overbuilt it just a wee bit. It weighs as much as my Breedlove.
Thanks for allowing me to peruse and steal info and ideas from here. I could not have done this without the help I found from you guys.

Only 30 3/4 hours to fix it? You may have set a new record for a SNAFU fix. Nothing succeeds like success. Keep at it, you are hooked now.
