Actually it's not finished yet, but I dont have a lot of patience, so once all the parts were roughly shaped, drilled etc, I just had to put it together and see if it worked.

Piezo taped to the top, jack taped to the tail, lid isn't fixed down, I'm using some spare banjo strings, tuned it DAD and plugged it into a little Danelectro Honeytone eStudio, cranked up the volume and overdrive ...

Wow! It sounds like a guitar! Hahahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahha.

Amazing - I'm no craftsman, nor musician but I can't describe how great this sounds just on open strings.

Now I have to take it apart and put it back together properly. Shorten the tail, tidy up the headstock, mark fret positions, etc etc. I'll take more pics and describe what I did while reassembling, so this is all a bit back to front.

Just had to share my delight - I think it's just a week ago that I found this site! Thanks for all the info and encouragement to "just do it".

Good Job!!!  I know how you feel.  I was the same way on my first cigarbox.  It only get better and you learn more on every one you make.  I am on #5.  It will be my first fretted cigarbox.

Good luck and have fun,

Thanks - I was a bit worried that my first post was a bit self-congratulatory which is not really what it was about.

What I was trying to convey is that I am NOT a craftsman and NOT a musician, YET by following the plans and guidance here and spending very little money, pretty much all from the shed and ebay, I ended up with something that sounds TO ME amazing!

Well I see that you joined all the groups that will put you on the right track to a very enjoyable hobby.  I am looking forward to seeing your next build.
Looking good Man!!!
Good job. Testing before final assembly is not a bad idea.  My first was really a long board run thru a cardboard mailing box, I couldn't wait to get a cigar box and wanted to see if these piezo things from smoke detectors really worked. 1 string made from fishing line and a paint brush handle for a bridge, it sounded great thru my amp. Testing is part of the fun.
Very nice work, even if it's not finished. I actually had two built before I got my amp (also a Honeytone), so I had to wait to plug them in. But even unplugged, the first time you touch those strings and hear that twang is incredible. And once you plug it in, it just blows your mind.
