We all fashion our cigar box guitars into the format of regular guitars, so why not do something new with your cbg. Make it a tenor cigar box guitar. This page is dedicated to the making and playing of tenor cigar box guitars.

  • 306610137?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Doc made out of found pine chest tuned open A or G depending on my mood. P-bass pickups split and wired to 2 on/off toggle switches.

  • My latest tenor - no cbg but made of old scrap wood. tuned G-D-A-E.

The violin tuning makes it great as a rhythm guitar - just learn two barré chords and you can play almost everything...

  • The tenor guitar came about because banjos were going out of favour, & the banjo guys could swap over to that should they choose to.
That is a lovely tale about your dad!
We took the bass string & top B off a 6 string & move top E up, turned it into a tenor.
    1st, 3rd,4th & 5th strings
Took the spare m/heads off covered the holes & it worked a treat.
  • i dont know if this aplys but my Dad played early big band music and 4 string banjo was the instrument of choice because of volume when Dad started on 6 string guitar they were still trying to play banjo parts on 6 string guitar cause thats what it was aranged for so he never played any more then 4 string chords  up and down the neck kinda like uke. very melodic chording

Fret Spacing

Tossing around ideas for a Tenor build. One thing that has me a little puzzled in these early stages is fret spacing. Do Tenors have the same fret spacing as a regular guitar neck? I thought they did then I saw a video that suggestion otherwise. Thanks.
