Hey Guys,
I finished my first batch of Foil Pickups. Here is some info :
Retro-Foils- New Guitar Pickups Aged to Perfection
Retro-Foil pickups capture the look and sound that many of us remember from our youth. Well, the look and sound is back and more popular than ever! They look great on an old project guitar that has already been stripped of its pickups or even on a cigar box guitar. Retro-Foils are also perfect when looking for a different sound from a guitar that you already have or you just want to open up new sonic possibilities.
Retro-Foil pickups are a flat magnet, surface mount single coil pickup. They can also be mounted underneath with modifications (please see an instrument repair shop if you do not feel proficient in this step.) There are no pole pieces so string spacing is not an issue.
Retro-Foils are approximately ¼” high making these easy to surface mount on many guitars. No routing means only one very small hole for the pickup wire only. Character was important when designing these pickups. Each pickup has been aged and pieces are shaped by hand meaning that there are perfect imperfections and no two are exactly alike.
Pickups are grounded to a steel base plate with shielded wire, giving a surprisingly quiet single coil sound while allowing for some microphonics (pickups are allowing the acoustic properties of the guitar to shine through. Thanks and feel free to contact with further questions.
Heres a pic of my first six pickups. They are just under $50 each. Please contact me personally if you interested in purchasing. Pickups #1-4 are all very similar and are considered a standard model. #5 is a basic black model-goes with anything. # 6 is more of a rat rod model-kinda seen its share of the road!
Check out some of my vids for samples of how they sound.
Thanks!
Wade

Fab looking pups.Would you ship to London,England?....
I think I could do that-I would have to add a bit of shipping across the pond.
Thanks,

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Guys,
I've received a lot interest in these pickups.
Here is the link if you are interested in purchasing:
Thanks and I promise not to make a pest of myself,
Wade
Those look sweet. Are you planning differenent cover designs...maybe some in brass?
I have more cover designs. The standard one is doing well. I love brass but it would push the price way up there. Trying to keep pups in a range people can afford.

They look fantastic. Can you please tell me how you aged #6. Im on a project now and need that kind of look for a neck plate. Thanks
Hey Tramp -
I used black laquer automotive paint and go over it with some fine wet/dry sandpaper. You can go even smoother with steel wool.

What are the covers made of? It looks like steel. Don't you want to use aluminum, brass, or stainless for the best flux pattern (least disturbed/detoured flux pattern)?
Are you pressing the covers yourself? Have you tried aluminum? If you're recycling, I would think aluminum siding would be a good bet for a source of low cost material. I was surprised to read that the old pressed metal toys that dime stores used to carry, were often made from recycled tin cans. I've been saving a pile myself for different projects. Recycling rocks!
