Self Imports from China

Has anybody had experience with self importing tuners and other musical items from China or Vietnam? What has the import duty been if any? Vietnam and China are both countries well represented on ebay.

I've purchased tuners and pickups from China that were offered on ebay. I've used the tuners and am happy with them. They were very cheap, as was the shipping. I also bought a couple pickups which I haven't used yet. One of the cost me a dollar plus $3.19 shipping. Of course, maybe I'll find out it's junk when i install it.

OK Im sorry, just check out Gittys site, and ended up ordering some gold turners for my 1935 Regal neck! Not going to beat that price anytime soon, I can see why you support him so much.

Ben will arrange 'best price or close to it' anyway, he'll buy in quantity and get a better deal than we can, i'd prefer give the modest margin to him than someone i dont know & I can tell u for a fact his margins are modest and he looks after us, hes after a long term success, which means benefit for all parties, not just a quick buck

Ive bought a lot of stuff from hong kong and china Bob, especially small cheap computer parts, usb cards,, ram, stuff like that, I have only ever been screwed on ebay by individual operators (who were Australians) never by a big ebay store. Trust the feedback and go for one with lots of stars, the feedback system is pretty good and once an ebay business is turning over a lot of cash I'd wager that 100% score is a valuable asset they will value and be careful not to jeopardize..

Guys, I agree support your own but with the economy the best price or close to it works for me. The Chinese companies make things for the American market, It is big companies moving business to China. They are trying to make a living just like us

Great news, I have chatted with Ben (Gitty) about it and he is negotiating a deal on these budget Schaller/Gotoh type ones right now, so if u can wait a few weeks u neednt take any risk on a faceless Chinese company...

Does anyone have experience with http://www.alibaba.com/? For example, go there and do a search "guitar machine head." But I can't figure out what the prices really are, mostly you have to contact each vendor.

PS, I am a big supporter of Gitty as well, and buy a lot from him.

@ Bob Harrison -- I agree on CB Gitty, I always check with him first... plus, we are such a small minority, we should support our own...

I have had great luck doing the eBay "self imports"... I also do tattoos and have created a business relationship with a guy in Beijing. I just got 6 tuning machines for $8.... $1.33 each. They are PERFECT for CBG

Just watch the postage, some of these guys inflate that to push the buy now price down to a dollar fifty or whatever..
these are still the best tuner deals i see & the ones i've been using for a few months now

heres a 6 in line set These are the cheapest, under ten bucks delivered
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170528396...

These 3 on a side ones are about $15 delivered
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120610669...

And these Gibson style ones, which i really like are $17 delivered

(im talking Au$$ here, even less to you guys probly)
these tuners are all the same btw, its just the knobs on top that are different
