violin Tailpiece??

not sure if this is the right forum for this question but has anyone used a violin tailpiece on a cigarbox guitar to thread the strings at the bottom? I have an ebay strum dulcimer that has been brutalised and am look for a fast safe fix. I'm intending to post pics soonish but they are not for the feint hearted..
