So I bought the tin can mike kit, and  am a bit...underwhelmed.

Used hot glue. The disk does not touch the metal because of the glue. Should I have glued from the top?

If it doesn;t matter, even with an amp, it doesn't put out much volume.

Are there different value discs? Does size matter?

So....  I have a crap acoustic guitar that I have salvaged parts from, and now it want's to get in the mix a little. It had a saddle with a piexo rod under it. I'm looking to rework that a bit. Does a rod piezo need to be in direct contact with bridge/saddle material, or will it pick up vibes from just the wood? Let me try for a better description... If I leave the rod in it's saddle groove and find the correct size all-thread or bolt, can I just lay the bolt on top of the groove where the saddle would normally go? Or must there be metal/rod contact?

You can imbed it into the bridge with good results, but having direct contact with the strings is the best? Or loudest? You can even encapsulate it like a sandwich? And yes, the piezo should have glue between it to dampen some of the noise? I would also try a preamp with the mic? I've made a few of those & it was pretty loud thru just an amp? Shane has a whole section about it in his book?
