  • white raven,i did this with one of my early builds, coin under brass rod bridge,i put a grub screw through the rod so as you tighten or loosen it it brightens or dulls the piezo, worked pretty wellDSCF1006

  • Has anyone ever tried placing the piezo under a coin that is inlayed in to the surface? If it doesn't kill the sound, I think it could add a good design element and provide amplification at the same time.

    Any thoughts?

Anyone try these bar type pickups?  Seems like they would be great for kalimbas.

  • Hullo One and All.I've recently finished a one string diddly bow that has a rod piezo located in the bridge with a bone saddle. The volume and sound are great but if I turn the volume any higher than 2 on my amp,i'm getting a lot of screaming feedback. Is there any way I can eliminate or supress this?.....

  • Bear, thanks for the feedback...

  • 306284973?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024I built Justin Johnson's latest Alabama licence plate guitar.

It has a cut down rod piezo with a PS-900 slider volume & tone control with corian bridge.

He liked the sound so much, he took it back to America with him.

I've pretty much given disk piezos away....very hard to reduce the harshness in them. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

  • OK gang.... I was reviewing some of my really old YouTube videos... I'm now wondering if simple disc piezos sound better wired straight to the jack without any pots in the line.  I know it sounds a little crazy, but some of the songs recorded on simple CBGs with no volume pots seem to sound clearer/clean that songs recorded on later builds after I started putting volume pots on almost everything for the sake of ease during performance....

Anyone else come to this conclusion, or am I hearing something not really there

  • jantan, most piezo's can be cut...but rod and disc.  experiment to find best setup.

  • I would like to install piezo for bass. I can only fit in half of the piezo.

Cork under piezo maks it sound lower. What hertz?

    What is best parameters?

  • I would go with what cigarbox triplestring said about grounding, bend one leg and solder it to the case of the volume pot also ground from there to the black on the jack plug. You can also open up most guitars and see the same thing which is what I did and made me solder it the same after I had the same issue

Preamp for rod piezo?

Hi, I just tried my first rod-piezo, mounted under the saddle of the bridge.  I was rather underwhelmed. The sound was just fine, a bit more mellow than my usual disc type piezo, but the volume was so soft that I had to crank my 15 watt amp to 11 with full gain to hear it at all. I swapped it out for a disc and was back in bussiness. Is it typical to use a preamp with rod piezos?  Or did I just get a bad one?  Maybe there is some trick to mounting inside the bridge that I am unaware of?…

Bass Uke set up?

Hi everyone. I'm building a bass ukelele (the kind with rubber strings). I have chosen a rod piezo under the saddle. I want to add a a Tillman preamp plus a tone and volume pot set up to get the most out of this classically upright bass sounding instrument. Should I wire the preamp in BEFORE the tone and volume of after? What values do you suggest for the pots and tone cap? I read a lot of conflicting information on these specs... 25k-500k pot values is a pretty big range! I'd really…

Tuneable water bottle bongo

Hey guys, Looking at stuff on YouTube the other day I saw where they were making Bongo's using those five gallon water bottles. One guy was wishing he could tune his so I think I came up with an answer for him. I have to make a few electrical connections yet & wait for the glue to dry before wiring the plug in like a cork on a bottle. I get that done then I can see if I can tune it any using low & I mean LOW air pressure. Any one else done something like this?. I don't want to blow the bottle…

Hullo All.I was wondering if anyone has tried the soft flexible cable version of the piezo pickup and if so.what sort of results they've had? I've used the rod piezo and I'm really pleased with the sound....
