Apologies to those who may have already taken a look at my latest video - but I thought you might like a look at my new Farmer footdrums in action:

They are a great piece of kit. Brilliantly designed and made - but not so brilliantly played yet.

Hi Naz Nomad & Other Percussionists...

I want to build a Stumpf Fiddle / Pogo Cello / Devil's Stick (call it what you like), but was unable to find a suitable spring for the "pogo mechanism". I have heard that a tennis ball can work. Does a tennis ball work as well as a spring? Certainly they are more available. How does one mount a teniss ball to the end of a stick? Anyone with experience with these instruments is encouraged to respond. Thanks.

So my first stomp box looks great but doesn't like much. Pretty much just like someone stomping on gravel ( which I suppose has it's own merit). I have a piezo pick up hot glued to the bottom of a old pallet box under a tambourine bolted skin side down. Again, it looks cool as heck. Perhaps if I send it through a pedal it might sound more....refined?

I am looking to make my first stomp box. My thought is to attach a tambourine and a piezo pickup to the bottom of an old pallet box like the 7 up one Shane has a cool picture of on this wall. Any advice?

Hey, Bone Digger. Take a large wooden box and attach your shaker to the inside of the top with a hinge on one side. Attach the other side with, oh, say a bungee cord. Now if you drill a hole in the boxtop where your shaker is and drop a bolt into it, every time you stomp on the bolt it will hit your shaker.
A second method you could try is to buy an old bass drum footpedal (I see 'em in thrift stores) or build your own and attach your caps to that.
As to the bottle caps for zills (fancy word for shakers, from the Turkish word for cymbals). Try to get the rubber seals off, as they will dampen the sound too much. You can burn them off easily, but this is something you will want to do outside as it smells TERRIBLE!

Alan, the pan is 2 saucepan lids, screwed together at their edges ... inside is a small string of beads which rattles about when the lids are struck, giving your 'snare' effect.
The spring (sourced from one of those bouncy things you hang your baby off a door-frame with) is just hooked over a bolt at either end, and doesn't physically make contact with the pot-lids. This spring produces a ''reverby-washboard'' (kinda) effect when you run a drumstick along it.

Hey, Naz. Is the spring attached to the pan? In the YouTube Vid, the guy seemed to be getting a snare drum effect off his pan.
