London and nearby

A group for those near to London, weather you live near or just feel near spiritually. Even if you've never been to the "Great Metrolops" but feel some sort of emotional connection. Hope it helps people down south to co-ordinate a bit.

David. I wasn't aware of Martin Simpson until now (although it seems I should have been). I couldn't find Road Kill anywhere else on the internet to listen to it, but found a song called Louisiana 1927, which is strange because just a couple of hours ago a good friend of mine in Louisiana emailed to say she is coming over here in May. I'm hoping to go there later in the year.

None at all, and I can't get the song to play. I will try again another time. Maybe I could learn to play it on a CBG.

David. Your qualified just by feeling deciding to press the button to join, and it's a pleasure to have you here. Always good to have another photographer here as well.

Don't worry Chris. If you wait a little while they will have reduced the speed limit to 30 on that same bit of road and you will be speeding.

Hmm maybe being from Norfolk disqualifies me from being on the London list, it's all a bit alien. No-one ever rushes around here. I've lived here three years now. About a year into being here I found myself driving quite happily at 40mph on a national spead limit road, and I didn't even accelerate when I realised, as I wasn't in any rush!

Sorry. I forgot one.

6. Form a queue, even when there is nothing to queue for. Seriously. I was standing in Uxbridge underground station the other day, at least 10 meters from the ticket machines with nobody in front of me and someone tried to queue behind me. Well, I think that's what he was doing ;-)

OK. My own version of being British. You must:

1. Think that we have the worst weather in the world in spite of evidence to the contrary.

2. Complain about things only to people who can do nothing about them and also do nothing about them yourself.

3. When out, avoid making eye contact or talking to anyone you don't know at all cost (this applies mainly to southerners).

4. In London in particular, when going anywhere, dash around as if every second counts until you get to your destination and then sit and read the paper for half an hour.

5. When addressing people from other countries who don't speak English help them out by speaking very slowly, very loudly and in English.
