London and nearby

A group for those near to London, weather you live near or just feel near spiritually. Even if you've never been to the "Great Metrolops" but feel some sort of emotional connection. Hope it helps people down south to co-ordinate a bit.

We have in our town a recycle building materials outlet that also has bits and pieces of antique furniture components, I have lucked out this week because they are having a 1/2 off sale on all of the old furniture stuff so yesterday I bought a set of 4 curved, (sort of), antique wood legs, about 3.5-4 feet in length, for my next project which is going to be a large box with a dulcimer type neck on front edge with unit on these legs I just bought. Also just bought from same place a large bag, probably 40-50 of these chrome sprinkler inserts that will work perfect for using on sound holes, $4. for the legs and $5. for the chrome inserts. I just love junk stores~

Hi fellas, i found a really good seller of hardwood in Bushey, i ordered two 1 1/2" x 3.4" x 55" oak pieces for fifteen quid for my necks and they worked out great, straight as a die - will order more next week!

A.Thornton, phone 0208 950 1020 -  132 Bushey High street WD233DJ, his wood store/workshop is opposite the Golf Club behind the car wash....tell him Steve sent you, be nice to him...(-;

The other night at about 3:00am I woke up and had this idea about a box type guitar that sits on a stand that has a dulcimer type fingerboard on the front edge except strung like a 3 or 4 string cigar box guitar and similar tunings. The difference would be that the box would be a large box like a small trunk with a few decorative sound holes and wired with pickups, tone and volume controls, etc. and the fingerboard would have holes drilled through it at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th fret positions and these holes will act as string resonating holes as well as fret position indicators because like a dulcimer there will be a cut out on the box top underneath the fingerboard for sound as well as the couple of decorative ones on the remaining portion of the top. But this instrument would be played with a slide or like a dulcimer or like like a lap slide guitar, I am excited to build this and an after thought I had is the large box could have a built in amplifier in it as well, kind of a self contained unit, well, we will see. I'll keep everyone updated.

Hey John!

Although I'm a Yank, I went to high school in London. My sister is married to an Englishman in Surry, and I try to get over as often as I can. I could give you a list of my favorite London pups, or way-offtrack museums to see. Alas, I will not be over there this year. But have fun and don't eat any of the local (English) food!

Hey John, Thanks for the invite, also, thanks again for the helpful tips on filing the brass piece for the bridge a while back.

About London, my daughter was detained there and sent back to the U.S. a few years ago on her way to Edinburgh Scotland because of her status, she was going there to do volunteer work for a small church affiliated with the United Methodist church here in Oregon where she attends.She got to go back finallywhen she had her paperwok done right. She has been to Scotland twice now and Loves it, she wanted to see the Queen and Royal family in London but didn't get to so she plans to go back, lol.She was also estatic about being at the location in Edinburgh where Tom Hanks made the movie "The DaVinci Code"
