Well, I hadn't heard back from anyone, so I researched it on my own, and have put up a list of resonator cone makers & sellers which you can see by clicking this link. You'll ave to scroll down about a page to see the list. And there may be some other stuff of interest there, too.

Hi All.

Do we have a list of resonator cone makers/sellers with contact info? I know of Old Lowe's, but I suspect there are other makers & sellers. I know a few of you have tried to spin your own, and that it's quite an art.  Are you making them for resale to other CBG builders? If so, let me know. I want to list them on my CBN group which through an accident, gets more hits about Reso CBGs than box building, the intended audience. I accidentally put the word 'resonator' in the group name: "Home Made Resonator Boxes 101". So, I'm adapting the group to accommodate those people by providing mostly static information and links, and redirecting them here for answers that are beyond me. To bad your group's name does not sound more like "Resonator CBGs" so all the newbys can easily find you.

The person asking for cone resonators is from Queensland, Australia and was looking for a local source. Any one know of one?

-Rand.

I think its mostly cosmetic.  For example builders usually leave lowe cones uncovered.  I've played my spider reso without the cover, and the tone is the same as covered.  If anything, a bit more of the high end came through uncovered.

What is the purpose of the cover plate?  To protect the cone from damage?  To keep fingertips from damping the vibrations?

Check out my latest build, a full-sized guitar modified into a "dobro" of sorts.
I just put pics up:

Should work just fine Craig, looks like you've got minimal wood contact with the top, get some sound holes goin' so you can reclaim some of those vibrations bouncin' around in the box and you should be golden.
