I am attempting to make a canjo for a friend using a soda can. I need help with the fretting, I previously built a canjo with a round cookie tin and used my bought canjo as a reference I made the necks the same size and placed the bridge in the same spot and was successful with this method, but how would I do this using a can. I'm not sure if the scale length should be from my nut to the back of the can since I've read that the back of the is the bridge? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Randy

Sure....... If I get this correctly your saying that the bottom of the can will be the bridge. Two ways you can go here, Ive tried them both. If the nut is already set than measure from where the strings make contact down to the bottom of the can and apply that measurement to your scale calculator. Or, you can pick a scale that works for your neck and can and set the nut in it's correct position. I prefer the first method but I do like to get the scale to work with easy numbers. It's all good, don't sweat it!

On my Foster two stringer I strung and tuned it first and then measured to the bottom of the can. Flat bottom cans seem to pull in with the strings.
