Hello. Brand new to Cigar Box Nation. I live in Lancaster, CA, about 90 miles north of LA. I have not yet built a cigar box guitar, but I am an ardent musical instrument tinkerer and have built instruments from PVC (alphorn, bagpipes, flutes, quenas, etc.) and I also made a kind of kantele (Finnish lapharp) from a wooden box and some discarded guitar tuners. I have also converted cheap children's guitars into dulcitars (dulcimer-guitars) by removing some frets and restringing them with three strings, similar to a CBG. I'm planning on building my own CBG in the near future.

Greetings California CBG folks. I'm currently living in the CA Central Valley, but hoping to return to my beloved Sonoma County within the year. The Blues community is alive and well there (home of Charlie Musselwhite, for one) but cigar box guitars are few. I have three, and am learning to play. I'm hooked.

Hello All: joining up in hopes of learning from my fellow California CBGers. I live in Humboldt County, along the coast near Oregon Border. Just now making my first CBG - a four-string, fretted and electric model. Built a lap steel approx one year ago, now I'm stepping into the land of fretted instruments. I have the neck ready to fret, and then carve. It's a maple neck through the body, with an old ratty humbucker mounted into the neck wood at an extreme angle so it pretty much lines up within the width of the strings. The box is nearly finished, with cutouts for neck and pickup. A volume pot, wires and output jack will take care of the electricals. Then it's on to final headstock and neck carves, and some kind of finish....lacquer?

Any of you know of CBG types in my neighborhood? Let me know.

Okay, all, here it is. I'm hosting a booth at Rockfest this Saturday at the Diamond Stadium out in Lake Elsinore. Tickets are nice and affordable and it promises to be a really fun night. All of the old standards from the 80's will be there, such as Warrant and Great White. If any of you have good memories of listening to this guys some 20 years ago or so, come on out and get a little taste of that again.

Also, just come out to see me! I'll have a few guitars there. Feel free to come by my booth, throw your feet up, and play some tunes on my guitars. I really hope I get to see some of you there.

Got something close to a festival coming up this weekend. For anyone who is within driving distance of the Lake Elsinore, southern CA area, I'm doing a Rock Fest show this Saturday. A lot of cool 80's rock bands will be there. I'll get some details posted soon but if you guys like, come on down and see me!

Same here, I've spent more time building than playing! Now I've got 5 to build for other people, it's gonna be awhile, but I need to learn to play too!!

Festival sounds great, maybe someone can teach me how to play. So far I just enjoy building 'em. Either way, I'm here and having fun!
