I want to make a tshirt that says: HELP ! I LOST MY TUNERS !!! LEANNA
Lana Rae said:LOL! Ya gotta love it when women say to one another "I love your green tuners." I mean we aren't talking about nail polish, shoes, or a sweater - we are talkin' about tuners!!!! How refreshing is THAT?!?!?!

hi there from the south coast of England. I'm Bev and I've been playing various stringed fretted things for years. Right now I play tenor banjo for a Morris dance side~ got to keep our English traditions alive ! And it's good fun. I've got a couple of mandolins and a uke, been loooking at tenor guitars for a while but not found anything I fancied. Then by accident, like you do, I came across Chickenbone John's web site and thought, yes, that's it ! He made a four string cbg for me with the same neck dimensions as my banjo and I've tuned it the same GDAE. Had it about two weeks and can't put it down ! Finding it really fun to play, and when plugged in it goes throught a little Roland cube amp. Love playing English folk dance tunes, contemporary stuff and I write a fair bit myself, no blues though.... Have a myspace page, www.myspace.com/bevsdamnlion. All the best to you all, happy to be here.
I'm a married mother of two boys. My sister found this site about a week ago and we've both been working on our cbgs for the past week. We're going to start the next project while we wait for the tuners to arrive. :)
The whole reason we got involved in this is because we wanted to learn how to play an instrument. The cost of normal guitars being what it is, we thought this would be the best thing to do. We weren't counting on how addictive (and rewarding) the experience would be. :D
Welcome Stacey!! it is a great place for meeting folks, and no one ever not welcomed , and skill levels really varied,...I'm a "wanna be" builder...started as a player, with a purchased one...no place to set up a workplace, I might undertake starting one, out of doors--set up a table undercover in the shade--that would make me a shade tree mechanic......., make use of my good summer weather;-)
nice to meet you, :-)

Hi Stacey and welcome to the nation and the women's group! We're always glad to see new builders and players and even just folks who like to collect or learn more about cbgs.... There is so much useful info here that one could get lost for ages! Please feel free to ask questions -- there are a host of wonderful folks here on this site who are always eager to help! Best, Lana
Hi Laurie :)
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. We had to move some furniture, and then we went to the surplus store (I found some cheap two dollar clamps) and a cigar store (where I bought 18 boxes). I'm not sure if I got any good deals at the cigar shop - I just picked up anything wooden. I hope there's at least a handful that are usable...
A table outside under a tree sounds really nice...My sister and I are using my laundry room to build in. I think it would normally be large enough but I have other stuff in there, including the dog crate. It gets crowded but the light is good. :)
Speaking of the dog, she's in the dog house now. She ran into the laundry room and jumped up on my guitar while I was holding it in my lap looking at it. While she didn't rip the paper (it's a Monte Cristo box), she did leave claw marks. I don't know whether to leave it, or try to sand paper it to give it a 'worn' look. I'll post some pictures and maybe get some advice what to do...
