Where Were You on 9/11?

I know this isn't CBG and is primarily US focused (international brothers, please excuse me), but on the 8th anniversary of the terrorist attack on 9/11, it seem fair to pause and look back. I was teaching at a Christian School in San Jaun, Puerto Rico. I had several students who had family that worked in the WTC. May God bless the survivors of the victims and the heros of that day.....

  • I was in a Fire Station as Captain, chomping at the bit to do something, anything but not being able to do anything. The frustration was overwhelming, brothers dying without my help. Damn it still gets to me. Jkevn, I'm retired now.
  • I am a Canuck and I was working in a Vet hospital at the time. A guy in a room had the TV on and this flaming tower was on the TV. As I stared at it a plane flew into the other one and it was hardly sinking in when things just went from bad to worse. People went to the lunch room and stood their and watched the TV.
    Truly a most singular event.
Later on when all that smoke and dust was blowing around and the rescue people were in the mids of it all without masks I kept thinking they will as get respiratory diseases from it, I am a Respiratory Therapist. With hindsight even the masks did not help as much as people thought they would,a lot of people were damaged from that dust long after the buildings fell, interesting to see others perspective on the same event. Cheers Ron.
  • Sleeping on my band bus in the middle of a field at the Walnut Valley festival in Winfield, Kansas. We had driven 30 hours to get there from Virginia and had stayed up the whole night before jamming and drinking whiskey.
I had woken up all woozy and saw a crowd around a transister radio and went over to see what was up. Could not believe what I heard. When I went back to wake everybody up and tell them they thought I was joking.
Eventually some if the band walked into town to watch the footage at Walmart... I didn't see the video til we got home from tour some 2 weeks later- horrible.
  • at home-I watched it like it was some kind of movie-the neighbours were out all over the place-"Have you got your telly on-turn it on!"
"have you seen what's happening in America!"
my daughter was there-too young (I lied to myself) to get it-I felt ashamed-the same as I did when she asked me at a war memorial in town "whats a war daddy?"
" (pause) well, its where two countries have an argument so they each send their men out someplace and they try to kill each other-the winner is the country with the most men left" I felt like a total tw£t.My daughters looking up to the grown ups and look at what the hell we do.
Still, I must admit I wanted to kick some ass on behalf of the yanks that day.
    Humans eh?
  • At work in Charlotte NC. I remember hearing one of our employees talking about it and work simply stopped that day.

A tremendous tragedy to so many innocents by the acts of so few evil.
  • i was in school in brooklyn until my dad picked me up and brought me home.
there was tons of burning papers flying around and it way too smokey to be outside.
it was the only thing that i remember well from second grade
  • I too was sitting in a fire station on duty in N.E Scotland watching the news with horror
  • I was in NYC on that day, on my way into the city on the subway when the 1st plane hit, I live in Jersey City, just across the river from Manhattan. I remember it was a beautiful morning. I walked my Daughter to school and we have a nice view of the city and the Statue of Liberty. I recall taking in the view of downtown Manhattan and thinking how beautiful it all is. A terrible day for sure. The subways were shut down and the only way back to NJ was by ferry. Took most of the day to get home and the ferry sailed right bast the whole site, smoke pouring out. Just reading all the responses to this has made the hair stand up on my arms.
  • I was printing in my photo lab, heard about the first one on the radio. Grabbed a small TV and set it up out front so employees could see what was happening. We were stunned. It seemed unreal at first.Life will never be the same.
  • Jean and I were on holiday in the UK and saw what we thought was a plane accident ( the first crash) on the TV in a shopping Mall window. She wanted to know how it happened and i gave her some "knowledgeable"(!) reply and we walked on with only a small level of concern.

When we got back to the home where were staying the awful truth of the events met us.

Like most of us we were then glued to our TV for hours until sleep overcame us.

Peace on earth seems impossible, but i have faith that it will come.
