Just wondering what folks use to play their CBG's, or even other home made instruments through...

I have a bunch of guitar and bass gear. For CBG's, I tend to use an overdrive or fuzz, a Blackheart Handsome Devil (inexpensive 7/15 watt tube amp), and smaller (5-7") recycled speakers. I have a Traynor Guitar Mate 10 I rehoused as a little amp head that I like too, but the tubes just sound better.

If that ends up not being loud enough, I also like my classic / modern bass rig - a 1970's Traynor Bassmaster YBA1 through a 65amps 1x15 cab. Same fuzz or overdrive in front.

I feel like I need some reverb. Probably find a used Hardwire or TC Electronics at some point.

What do you play through?

  • A little Fender Champion 20. I like the Blackface voice as it is pretty clean. Then I add some gain and reverb. For the price it is an amazing little amp. All it is really missing for my use is a second input. Then in a pinch I could have a mic.
  • I just got a Yamaha THR10C amp that I love. 2 Blues amp simulations plus others, cool effects-reverb, chorus, tremolo etc. I also use tc Electronics Mojo-Mojo, Flashback delay and a ditto looper. I have a Micro-Cube as well which is a great little amp but I prefer the Yamaha now.
  • I play the pignose when I want to be 'authentic'.  But that little roland micro cube is more fun.  'Course I ain't exactly playin' the Royal Albert Hall either.
