Thought I might start a discussion around what kind of workspace cbg buffs craft their intruments. For those like myself, who rent in a small unit you couldn't swing a cat in,it can be difficult working without trashing the carpet etc.I'm sure some of you folks have work benches etc to make a newb like me salivate. I'll get the ball rollin and say I did my first build in the bathroom mostly, on top of the washing machine. And a coffee table by the T.V. I throw a big plastic sheet on the carpet under it to catch sawdust etc.Needless to say I have trashed the washing machine lid and top of coffee table. And a few old books to cut on. Come on folks.I am sure someone has a story bout makin a cbg in bed. Or in the Loo he he he

Back of my truck, have clamps that are big enough to clamp to side walls.

Keep my bandsaw inside and have extention cord so I can drop my tailgate and use it there. Since I have to carry it in/out I try and plan a bunch of cuts at once.

very nifty Murdoc. mobile cbg. What about delivery to ya door.

Nothing so entertaining here, I back the cars out of the garage so that I can pull my tools and worktable out to use.

You arent tempted to use the bonnet JL?

not yet, the garage is big enough and my girlfriend "inspires" me regularly to tidy up and not let the clutter take over.

Great commitment Way.Got me thinkin now.My unit is open planned so I can see myself taking things to the dining table soon. Lol there is only half of it for eatin off now. Other half has been crowded out with hand tools.
I work mostly out in the carport. In Texas that means working in high humidity and high temperatures. At least i don't have the sun beating down on me! I'm sure the humidity change from indoors to outdoors affects the wood, but unfortunately I can't do this inside. Thinking about looking for a small space to rent. Even if I could just swing a cat around it'd be better than working outside!
Get plenty of heat down this way Richard.I'm around 100 miles north of Sydney.Been a very warm stretch since late August last year. I wasnt building cbg during our summer. Never heard of em back then.Fortunately weather is gettin a bit more winter like the last 3 weeks or.Except yesterday and today a tad warm for this time of year. Got a sweat up rasping and sanding my second build neck. Pweeeeww.
p.s Richard. We got a pop and rock guru down here called Richard Wilkins.

Like JL, above, I back Mrs. Grandpa's car out of the garage and set up my work table. I also have a concrete area on the side of the garage, where my band saw lives under a mobile cover. I am fortunate to have a drill press and router mounted on wheeled carts, so I can move them from the garage to the side yard when the weather warrants working outside, which in So. Cal. is most of the year. I admire and appreciate the creativity that so many builders use in limited space, with limited tools, to create their gits. As several have mentioned, with a few tools and a small area to use them, magic can happen.

southern California where the girls are warmer Grandpa. He he

Yes, Jonno, .but I've been to Bondi Beach, and I lived near Torquay Beach outside of Geelong, Vic. Pretty "warm" girls there, too.  But I, too, digress. I also have a pedestal fan cadged from the vacant upstairs bedroom that provides a nice breeze across my work area on warmer days. Sweat and breeze creates a reasonable cooling, especially in the shade. A big help when working in the garage or the side yard. I expect that some of you with in-the-home work spaces might even have a little a/c going. Thankfully, pop-up style (ez up)  shelters have gotten pretty cheap to buy, so shade can be had by most. Also a handy hang'-up spot for gits at an outdoor selling event. Whoa.....old man rambing on.
