It almost seems like we're ripping stores off when we buy them for $.25 - $5. They simply don't know what they have! And the free ones! Dude!

Yep $5.00 is the most Ive paid for a wooden box. I also found a guy down at the flea market around the corner who sells them at $1 for cardboard and $2 for wood.

I don't feel like I'm ripping them off, they threw them away a few years ago, heck they come free with cigars for the store. One shop gives them away and is very happy to, I'm going there today for some, and he knows people sell them on ebay etc. The .25cent ones, the guy said he used to give them away but one person would take them all and sell them an e-bay so he decided to charge something so they wouldn't take them all and others could get a few for odd projects, he knows what they get on E bay but he doesn't care I know because he told me. I only take the ones I can use, even from the free guy. Its all in good fun, cheap fun. Again, a few years back they would throw these away, we are simply recycling. : )

Dude, they wanted $10 in Tampa in Ybor City. TAMPA! No f'ing way. They make the freakin' cigars down there.

LOL, I just got my freebies and we chatted about him charging a buck for them, I sad no problem but he said it was to much work, easier to give them away. Plus he has over 500 stashed in a wharehouse, no I wont tell where. : )

Well the crates were'nt as nice as Id originally hoped. However I have started to build 2 new boxes so far both measuring about 10"X 13"X 2.5" The sides are nice and worn/aged and they will have new 3/16" ply tops & bottoms. I think 1 of them is screaming "reso"

Thanks guys. I also just passed up a pile of junk set to the curb down the street and its full of small old wood crates that are built with box joints. They look to be an apprpriate size. And old wood pepsi crates for the old bottles. Im gonna grab them. The crates look to be well aged (i like that look) I think I can cut them down to a good height and slap on a new ply top and bottom and viola' a new cb! Damn I think Im developing an addiction! SHHHH dont tell anyone!

I used to like the deeper boxes till I found the Olivas

The thin bodies just seem to sit better and if you stick a makeshift reso in them they sound great

I built one on an Oliva Especial box that was 7x9x1 and stuck some sort of metal drink coaster in it as a reso

I built one for my non playing mother who basically just wanted something to hang on a wall, but someone came over to look at what I had and offered me $75 for POS
The sound that came out of that thing was a work of accidental art that should not have happened
I named it Sarah

Also like the Diamond Crowns, ugly box but a good sound and the La Aroma Cubana have a great size and sound
I buy most of wood from a cigar superstore for about $2 per if I buy in any kind of bulk
My business card models are usually made from the free Arturo Fuentue cardboard boxes I get from a local cigar store that has agreed to display my CBGs along with a local Asian Supermarket, if you can believe it

Stan, when you say carboard artuero fuentes are you refering to the paper covered box's? I've used some of them and mine were plywood and pressboard. Not a bad sound, great sound if its all youve got.

I like to use La Paz Corona Superior boxes wich hold's 25 tubed cigars whenever i can get them. They are big! In cm's it's 32cm x 23cm x 5cm, in inches that would be 12.6in x 9.01in x 1.97in. The top is a thin solid wood (0.3-4 mm/0.16 in) and the box itself is built like a rock with fingerjointed sides so ithey make pretty good acoustic's for more than 3 string's.

And they are just plain beautifull boxes

For 3 stringer's i like the smaller Arturo Fuente's or Macanudo's but i take whatever i get.

I like to use the word cardboard because the store I go to gives cardboard away for free
Te only thing cardboard is the press board top, but I don't want to get in the habit of saying that out loud
