Vintage Hub Cap Guitar Build

Hi, I haven’t posted a build for a few months, other guitar builds and repairs keep me away from the CBG bench. But after a year of walking past this hubcap, waiting for inspiration and ideas, I finally made a decision of what to do.

What I wanted was a decent acoustic sound. To get this I needed a sound chamber to amplify the strings, so this is what I came up with. It was always going the be an electric guitar because I had a feeling my vision of a half-decent acoustic sound was going to be wishful thinking. It was Ha ha. Ok for practice.

I made bridge changes and what I ended up with gave the best volume and sound quality. Of course, it also suits the electric sound of the build. Fantastic I think.

Anyway, here it is Vintage Hubcap Simca Aronde 1961.
Bridge: modified. The original hardtail bridge dampened the top too much.
Tailpiece: Violin. Modified
Nut: Chrome steel bar.
Pick up: single coil. Mounted to the neck.
Controls: 250k Pots with custom knobs made from Charlie perfume bottle caps
Strap pin: Modified endpin jack.
Scale: 25’’ with 2 octave neck = 24 frets

Very cool Taffy! I like the neck buildup and pup placement. How is the drum made? How does the neck attach to the hubcap to the drum?? [1st time I replied I pushed the wrong button... sorry!]

Hi again, thanks for the comments T-G. I have 50 or so photos of the build, I will condense them down for an overview of the process. Might have to do it as a part 1 part 2 series. I'll be back.
