Uke tuning pegs

I built my first cbg, and what fun, you learn alot on the first one, as in what not to do. I think mine came out nice. My problem is that I used ukulele tuning pegs for my three-string fretless. And they just wont hold. I didnt do the greatest job drilling the holes for them, and i have tightned the screws pretty well, but they just loosen on there own and wont hold enough tension on the strings. Anyone have any ideas for a fix? —Brendan

  • Could be all about the taper angle. Wrap/glue (with no overlap) some thin sandpaper around the narrow end of the peg and "Gradually" make the taper. No need for the paper to go all the way around the peg, a small gap will be ok.

"Tiny bit" at a time and then test it. (It can get too big "very" quickly.)

Try it on another piece of wood first,..... might be safer.
  • Replace them with guitar tuners.

Or tune to a lower pitch - uke pegs can't hold as much tension as guitar tuners.
