http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Economy_Tuners/Economy_Open_Gear_Tuners.html?tab=Pictures#details cheapies at $12.95 --- but hey, maybe not bad if brand spankin new___open back, and the white plastic buttons actually look a little old school -- and I bet would be easy to scuff up with steel wool and age/stain them to yellow them up a bit.

Here is a deal that I think is hard to beat. I built a hourglass dulcimer using the Folkcraft.com hardware package. $21.31 total

    http://tinyurl.com/235j66p

    4 geared tuners
    4 feet fret wire
2 1.5" Delrin nut/saddle material (can be ground down and re-slotted for CBGs)
    4 anchor pins
    4 strings (2 .011, .013, .024BW)

Everything, except perhaps the 2 lightest strings, work on CBGs.

They also have a good selection of tuners.

Now get out there and build something.

  • excellent -- I'm hoping they work just fine for our needs...I heard one iffy review that said one of the gears stripped the very first time they tried to string it up -- but I'm guessing that it's like any lo-budge mass produced item --- you'll get a dud here and there. But the majority of folks said CB Gitty 's work just fine. And that price. I suppose if we're gonna go all out on a fancy build, we might drop the dime for better tuners, but for the average CBG? Let me know how your cb gittys string up and work when you get them installed! Thanks, ET

Sorry I bought his last set and they arrived today. :) I dont know much but when I checked them out the quality seems no different than the Ping Presision tuners I get from my local shop and you cant beat Gitty's price

Just checked. C.B. Gitty is currently out of stock on tuning gears.

then I'll definitely get my tuners from c b gitty -- too many people have said they work just fine. and that price? and from a good guy? Thanks all for the input! ET

  • C.B. Gitty is sold out at the moment but apparently more are on order.
I ordered some cheapies from my local guitar strore AUD$10 but they are REALLY bad. One of them even stripped the thread the first time it was strung - luckily my CBG was three string so I had one spare...The Gitty ones are said to be good, go for it. I intend to order some myself, even though I am overseas.
  • thanks man, I'm still deciding which build to do next...so I have time to get tuners...maybe I'll shoot him a mail to see about an ETA on a new batch. ET

  • Bought a set for my 1st cbg. Installed with the bushings but they seemed loose. Drilled the headstock to 3/8 inch and glued in maple dowels. Then I drilled the dowels. Now everything is nice and snug. Looks pretty good, too.
