I am building a hubcap guitar. I have a tone and volume knob I would like to put on here and a magnetic pickup. Looking for a wiring diagram to get it right. The controls have 1,2,3 terminals on them. and a lead wire soldered into 1,2 on one of them. Since it is going on metal, will it hum or buzz also? Thanks much.

If you build in a metal container, it generally acts as a faraday cage, and the fittings do all the grounding for you.
