I have reached the point of friend saturation and am also running out of supplies, but still have the itch to learn and build more but lack the funds

I have a few left over and one is going to a cigar store, one to an Asian market (but they want me to do them with an Asian flair) and one ois going to a local small internet music reviewer and I have the possibility of putting them in 2 or 3 more cigar stores

I really don't have enough to go to a festival or flea market and the only social networks I belong to are facebook and a local gun collectors forum

For the most part these are nothing special very simple three string designs that I figure to sell for between $60 and $80

Naw Stan, you didnt "DO" anything wrong,,,,,,,or at least you did the best you could based on what you knew at the time.
Probably the youngster just needs a few kicks in the pants from life itself to finally get it.
But if you insist on taking the blame, know that your far from alone. There are kids all over the country that are being raised exactly the same way ,and all will have to figure out the difference in life as they thought it was as they grew up, and reality. Most of the time eventually they figure it out.Sometimes they dont. But you cant live life for them, thats what stunts our youth of today. Us parents attempting to "save" our kids from the fact that life is hard, sometimes your the windshield ,,,,,,, and sometimes your the bug, thats life LOL
I consider that encounter total success story
I have known him for about 12 years and have always known his family's musical history
Whenever he has encountered a guitar he would pick it up and play a few notes, usually that "Place on mars wear the women smoke cigars" song intro and sit it down or hand it back.
I always figured that he didn't really know how to play
Yesterday he was playing
He's not great but he is good and I have a feeling that I have found a convert and teacher
He wants to practice and start going to a certain campground that offers old time live entertainment with a hillbilly band

That's the story... if you can get a good playing CBG in a musician's hands....

I had a guest (friend of friend) in my shop last weekend... he stayed and played for 2+ hours....
After trading several emails, he buys two and takes the third in trade for demo work and to be my "playing professional" (my CBGs will go in his show and he'll hand out my business cards)....

Playing will change the attitude a lot....

the best,

Wichita Sam

I take the blame for my son's attitude
His older brother was born when I was 18 and had to grow up with very little the second came along 10 years later after
His mother also grew up poor in the NY projects
I guess we felt guilty and tried to make up for what the first didn't have by giving it to the second

Life has been handed to him , at 2 and 3 he was wearing Air Jordans and the trend just continued

On a better note
I took a few over to a cousin in law today that has a similar opinion of CGBs
His father was a pro musician all his life and his older brother is a musician and avid collector of "serious" instruments

I only asked him to play one to tell me if the action was too high (I already knew it wasn't')
2 hours later he finally put the thing down
Now he is wanting one and was coming up with some really good marketing scheme and ideas
I had a similar discussion with his older brother on the way back from my father's funeral
He kind of criticized me for the way his brother was raised .
He claimed that he was more satisfied with the way he came up because it made him more ready for life and what come from it
He is not what anyone would call extremely successful but he is doing what he loves for work and raising his daughter on his own
The funny thing is I see him doing the same thing for his daughter that we did for his brother
That little girl can play a piano
Every one in the next generation of our family plays something or is heavily involved in music, the gene obviously skipped a generation in my family

One thing I would do is find a local open Blues/Blue Grass jam where you are! Play the hell out of one, and I am dead sure there will be a group of folks that will stat asking about it! That's when you play sales man! Just don't bring your main git, you might end up having to selling it! LOL
That is one of the things the newly converted cousin wants to do
Plus he wants to take some home to New Orleans and do some street performances after watching Kenni's vid from Nashville

Funny thing is, just having one now (been 3 days or so) I have 2 builds in line for others. Not to make money, but 1 for a friends mother for her birthday, and another one for a friend I met on YouTube! But, back to the topic, I go to an open blues jam here locally every Weds night. This week I am not bringing my 6 stringer, rather I will be testing my 3 string. Knowing the dudes there I might have a few more builds under my belt! Like it was mentioned in another response, as long as I make enough to keep building and honing my skills I am happy! Plus it's a nice break from building solid body 6 strings for the metal heads around here! LOL 6 strings are getting boring, 3 strings are the way now for me! Less is more!

Ok my rant is over now- Sorry. LOL

Chris,

You are right on target... Play as much as you can, if you want to sell. When I was first starting to build, I asked Shane "What kind of CBG sells the best?" .... his answer? ... "the kind you play the best!"...

Point being, the potential buyer needs to experience the potential of an instrument that they never seen or heard before.... The better you play, the more they can get it and want it...

the best,

Wichita Sam

Its true for me as well.It seems they usually like the one I'm playing sitting on the table best and I have to keep going to the wall and yanking off another CBG to play because I sold the one I was demo, ing.
Today is Sunday,I didnt open the shop until about 1 PM, had folks walking in the door behind me as I unlocked the door.
By 4 PM I had sold 3 3 strings,a clamp on pickup.A 1 string and a Jawharp. Not a bad day as its SUPPOSED to be our slow season.I closed the shop at 4 pm for the day due to running out of slides and I wont sell if I cant give them the complete kit.
